Our May 2026 Banquet

May 16, 2026

Another year has come and gone for the Dallas Magic Club (S.A.M. Assembly 13 and I.B.M. Ring 174) and what a year it was. We closed the year down with our annual banquet which was held at the Longhorn Icehouse where we treated to some excellent food and even more excellent entertainment once our officers were installed for the upcoming year. Our outgoing president, George Ferrin, took the stage after dinner and brought up the new officers for the coming year. Appearing in the photograph are our new officers and board members.
Starting from the left is the Dean of the Dallas Magic Club, Dal Sanders, Secretary Jeff Lee, Dan Rosenberg, President Shawn Messonier, Derrel Allen, Treasurer Eric Miller, Robert
Young, Sgt at Arms Caleb Westeen, and Geoff Grimes. Daniel
Brookshire, who is the new Vice President, was unfortunately not able to attend the banquet. Once the officers were installed,
George Ferrin gave out the coveted Dallas Magic Club Performer of the Year Award and the recipient of that was Mr. Matthew Welsby from Australia. A huge accomplishment for this young man who has been doing magic for a short period of time.

He has surrounded himself with a wonderful group of mentors
and has progressed extremely well. Our next award winner was Caleb Westeen who took home the Chuck and Joannie Lehr Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Dallas Magic Club. Congratulations to both of our well-deserved award
winners.

Next on the night’s agenda was our headliner for the evening. The club brought in John Shryock for the evening’s entertainment and boy, what entertainment it was. John is the consummate professional. A veteran performer of places like The Magic Castle, Caesar’s Magical Empire, Warren & Annabelle’s, and a cruise ship resume and rivals none. The magic was incredible and he was loved by the audience. It came across on stage where the audience was witness to a man that truly has a love of performing and a love of magic.
On top of all that, John is a super nice guy and a joy to be around. He performed a wonderful assortment of effects which many can be found in his new book, Maestro, which was released this past year. Signature effects like his Ring in Walnut and Sympathetic Cards, which are both in his book,
were beautifully executed. We look forward to seeing you all
in June for our next meeting.
