Last Month at the DMC – July 2026

As the July meeting came to order, it quickly became apparent that it was going to be a small meeting. There was quite a bit going on during the month of July, including several of our members out of town for the IBM Convention. This made the meeting attendance on the lower side, 18 people, total. Many clubs would consider that a strong showing but for the DMC it was low. That being said, we still had a strong meeting with plenty to do and see. With that being said, let’s get started.

The evening was kicked off by our one and only, Aaron Stone. Aside from being a wonderful magician, Aaron is also an accomplished photographer and he gave a really nice lecture on photography and headshots that benefited everyone. Great, sound advice and recommendations were discussed regarding promotional headshots and photography in general. I could tell this was not to be missed. Aaron gave great advice pertaining to everything from costuming to web design. It was a really thorough lecture that ended with Aaron setting up a photography studio where he took headshots of everyone in attendance for free. and I’m sure the members will walk away with some great photographs that they can use. This was a very generous offer and one that doesn’t come along often. A big thank you to Aaron Stone for providing such a service.

Once the photography was wrapped up, we moved on to our performance section of the night. Russell Turner kicked things off with a portion of his kids show. Some wonderful routines were demonstrated using color changing CDs, a Sammy Smith production, a Svengali magazine prediction into a baby gag. All very polished and it was evident that Russell had been doing this for years.

Ian Richards was up next with the help of John Montes who performed a card effect where there were multiple card revelations after seemingly losing the cards via multiple cuts and shuffles. All in all, a solid effect.

Long time member Bill Ingram followed with a really nice Hopping Half routine with the assistance of Caleb Westeen. A nice series of vanishes and appearances with the copper coins that one does not normally see done with a Hopping Half set.

The evening closed with Lord George, I mean George Ferrin. With the assistance of Bill Ingram, George performed a flawless handling of John Bannon’s, Play It Straight Triumph. A routine that I completely forgot about with how good that effect really is.
It was a great way to introduce the fact that John Bannon will be a featured performer at this year’s TAOM magic convention in Houston this Labor Day Weekend.

It will be a convention, not to be missed, this year with a star-studded line-up as we celebrate the 2 Scott’s…Scott Hollingsworth and Scott Wells. See you all in Houston this Labor Day Weekend!
